Fleet #11:

Congratulations to Bob and Nick Caldwell for their win at J Fest. We all had a great time in San Diego. Thank you to JK3, the San Diego Yacht Club, and the other sponsors for a great regatta. We had 9 boats with some help from the J world charters.

Congratulations to Curt Johnson for winning the overall high point for the year. We are still working on the trophy.

It was nice to see everyone sailing this year. Hopefully we can get some more boats off the sideline and in the water next season.

I would like to get some input on our annual meeting. We have a little bit of $ to put together something like last year. Is there any interest in a Christmas party meeting? Fired Up have offered their houses for a party if there is interest in having it in LA.

If that sounds tough to make I’m sure we can do something in Newport or Dana Point that is a little more central to the fleet.

I am interested in your 2 cents on place and timing.

See you soon!

Ahamenson Regatta:  Congratulations to Greg Kelly for demonstrating superior local knowledge in winning the Ahamanson Cup.  The Newport  Harbor Yacht Club put on a great regatta in widely variable conditions.   Their hospitality was great with excellent food and "Dark and Stormy" cocktails at the bar. Thank you to NHYC for a great regatta.

Upcoming Cal Race Week:  As you all know CYC is hosting Cal Race Week.  Always a fun and well run regatta.  The unofficial MIA list so far is; HUNU,  ILLUMINATI,  MERKIN,  WILD CARD,  BLUE JAY,  SLEEKIT.  There are many others we would love to see that are not on the regular list like BOLD FORBES and ATHENA..   Don't rule out chartering for this great regatta.

Other News:  "Newport to Ensenada"

Bob Hayward wins PHRF B aboard his TAINUI.  Congratualations Bob!

Curt crewed on the Sprit B winner Plankton in an amazing 16:46 elapsed in a Viper 830.

San Diego NOOD Regatta (March 2009) - see Final RESULTS

April 2009

National Offshore One-Design, or NOOD, is a 9 city sailboat racing circuit held in the U.S.. The series is organized by Sailing World Magazine, and takes place in St. Petersburg FL, San Diego CA, Annapolis MD, Detroit MI, Chicago IL, Seattle WA, Marblehead MA, Larchmont NY, and Houston TX.

Fleet #11:

First off, congratulations to Rusty and his Wild Card Crew on their win at the NOOD Regatta in San Diego. He was really fast and seemed to pick the correct side for most of the regatta. Those of you that did not show missed a fine blend of great racing (12 boats) fun times and carnage with Sunday wind in the 20’s with higher gusts. Thank you to J world for their 4 boats.

The Ahmanson Regatta is in a few short weeks in Newport. Let’s try to get a really good turnout for this one as well. Right now we have Kelly, Kamins, Hayward, Johnson, and Hunter. We are still looking for Nelson, (defend!) Wilkins, Steen, Caldwell, Wyman, Huston, Brown, Novick, Abecassis and everyone else. (Click to  SIGN-UP)

Please call me if you need any assistance.

SCYA Midwinters Regatta

February 2009

The theme of the weekend was "light, light, light," with wind speed rarely exceeding 4 knots in the race course off the Venice Pier.

Congratulations to Brian Mullen for winning the SCYA Midwinters regatta!

Brian on Bob's borrowed boat Blue Jay won the J/80 class.  It was a  light shifty wind affair but a great way to start the season at a great club.  We had 8 entires and thank you to all that made it.
